  • Knows the basic structure of the human body; the definitions and terms of its organs and systems; their locations, anatomical relations, and functions.
  • Has knowledge of health protection, system-specific diseases, and first aid.
  • Knows laboratory safety and the rules to be followed in the laboratory; identifies potential risks, takes precautions against them, and creates a safe laboratory environment.
  • Has knowledge of environmental health and waste management in medical laboratory practices and implements the necessary measures.
  • Has knowledge of the operation and management of medical laboratories and the ability to carry out related procedures.
  • Knows the devices, instruments, and materials used in the laboratory; uses them appropriately and performs their maintenance and cleaning.
  • Collects appropriate specimens for medical laboratory tests in accordance with protocols; ensures proper transfer of specimens; applies specimen acceptance and rejection criteria; can perform basic tests; and properly stores specimens that require preservation.
  • Performs pre-analytical sample preparation, prepares slides, uses the microscope, and conducts microbiological culture; identifies errors that may occur during medical laboratory tests and corrects them.
  • Prepares chemical solutions and knows the basic definitions and properties related to laboratory chemistry.
  • Has knowledge of sterilization and disinfection and applies them.
  • Conducts laboratory statistical studies, performs material and kit counts, and checks expiration dates.
  • Has adequate awareness of individual and public health, occupational safety, and environmental protection.
  • Uses information and communication technologies in matters related to the field and conveys professional knowledge through written and oral communication.
  • Communicates at a basic level in a foreign language and uses it in professional practice.
  • Updates the knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the field with a lifelong learning mindset and develops personally and professionally.
  • Understands the basic professional legal regulations related to the field and acts in accordance with social, cultural, and legal rights and responsibilities.
