Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program are expected to gain competence in laboratory safety, sample acceptance, test preparation, analysis practices, device use, sterilization, waste management, quality processes, and cooperation with the health team.

1. Knows the basic structure of the human body and the definitions, terms, locations, relationships, and functions of its organs and systems.
2. Has knowledge of health protection, system-related diseases, and first aid.
3. Knows laboratory safety and the rules to be followed in the laboratory; identifies risks that may occur in the laboratory, takes precautions, and creates a safe laboratory environment.
4. Has knowledge of environmental health and waste management in medical laboratory practices and applies the necessary precautions.
5. Has knowledge of the operation and management of the medical laboratory and has the ability to carry out laboratory practices.
6. Knows the devices, instruments, and materials used in the laboratory; uses them appropriately and performs their maintenance and cleaning.
7. Collects the appropriate sample for medical laboratory tests according to the rules; ensures sample transfer, applies sample acceptance and rejection criteria, performs basic tests, and stores samples that need to be preserved in accordance with procedures.
8. Performs pre-test sample preparation procedures, prepares slides, uses the microscope, and performs microbiological culture; identifies and corrects errors that may occur during the testing process.
9. Prepares chemical solutions and knows the basic definitions and properties related to laboratory chemistry.
10. Has knowledge of sterilization and disinfection and applies these procedures appropriately.
11. Performs laboratory statistical studies, material and kit counts, and expiration-date checks.
12. Has sufficient awareness of individual and public health, occupational safety, and environmental protection.
13. Uses information and communication technologies related to the field and conveys professional knowledge in written and oral form.
14. Communicates at a basic level in a foreign language and uses it in professional practices.
15. Updates field-related knowledge, skills, and competencies with lifelong learning awareness and maintains personal and professional development.
16. Understands the basic professional legal regulations related to the field and acts in accordance with social, cultural, and legal rights and responsibilities.
17. Participates in quality management and processes.
18. Works in cooperation with other health disciplines.
