Program learning outcomes targeted after graduation

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program are expected to gain competence in medical documentation, archiving, patient registration, reporting, correspondence, coding, communication, and carrying out procedures in accordance with legislation in health institutions.

  1. Uses the basic knowledge and skills acquired in medical documentation to interpret and evaluate data, identify problems, and take responsibility in solution efforts.
  2. Gains competence in basic professional concepts, definitions, and professional terminology.
  3. Compiles data related to medical statistics, analyzes them with scientific methods, and reports the results to relevant parties.
  4. Takes part in a team in solving complex problems encountered in field-related practices and acts in accordance with quality management and processes.
  5. Conducts internal and external oral and written communication effectively.
  6. Recognizes institutions and organizations within the health system and acts in accordance with laws, regulations, and legislation related to duties, rights, and responsibilities.
  7. Performs patient registration, provision, request intake, discharge, billing, and related statistical procedures by using the Hospital Information Management System.
  8. Carries out medical documentation, archive procedures, medical records, reporting, and professional correspondence effectively and quickly in accordance with the rules of the Turkish language.
  9. Ensures the movement, security, and protection of patient files with the legal knowledge required for the creation and operation of medical archives.
  10. Uses office tools, equipment, and machines effectively and performs simple maintenance and organization procedures when necessary.
  11. Provides consultancy services to patients and their relatives.
  12. Has sufficient awareness of individual and public health, environmental protection, and occupational safety.
  13. Is aware of the necessity of lifelong learning and continuously renews oneself by following developments in science and technology.
  14. Uses a foreign language to follow resources in the field and communicate with colleagues.
  15. Uses Turkish and body language correctly and effectively.
  16. Knows the principles and rules of medical secretarial work and acts in accordance with patient rights and patient privacy.
  17. Carries out internal and external correspondence; classifies, files, organizes, and archives documents.
  18. Codes diseases, procedures, and health-related problems according to international classification systems.
