Medical Services and Techniques

It is an associate degree program that trains health technicians who can take part in surgical intervention processes and who have the technical knowledge, practical skills, and awareness of professional responsibility required by the operating room environment.

About the Program

The Operating Room Services Program aims to train health technicians who will support the safe, orderly, and effective execution of surgical procedures. The program aims for students to become familiar with the operating room environment, learn sterilization processes, adapt to surgical teamwork, and reflect patient safety principles in their professional practices.

Establishment and Development

The program was opened on April 24, 2006 under the name “Surgical Technician”; by the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated September 27, 2009, it was restructured under the Department of Medical Services and Techniques with the name “Operating Room Services”.

Student and Graduate Status

Since its establishment, the program has produced many graduates. Educational activities continue with its current student structure and academic support staff.

Educational Structure

Theoretical and practical courses are carried out in a balanced manner in the program. Students gain knowledge and skills related to the basic methods, devices, materials, and safety practices used in the operating room environment.

Applied Training

Students have the opportunity to gain professional experience in a hospital environment through applied courses and compulsory summer practice. The practices support skill development related to operating room organization, sterilization, surgical teamwork, and patient safety processes.

Courses and Professional Learning Areas

Through courses such as Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Surgical Diseases Knowledge, Operating Room Technology, Microbiology and Sterilization, Introduction to the Operating Room, Introduction to Anesthesia, Professional Ethics, and Career Planning, students are provided with a professional knowledge base. Professional and social elective courses support students’ field knowledge, personal development, and professional adaptation.

The Operating Room Services Program aims to train qualified health technicians who can contribute to quality in surgical services by offering theoretical knowledge and applied training together, and who act in accordance with patient safety and professional ethical principles.
