Operating Room Services

(About the Program)

In the Operating Room Services program, an experienced health technician is trained at the associate degree level who are needed in the operating room, surgical intensive care center and sterilization units, who can prepare all the surgical materials used in the operating room and enable these materials to be used during the surgery, who can be directly involved in all surgical teams, and who can assist during the surgical operation. A Health Technician working in this field is a technical staff who performs necessary actions for a safe and comfortable operation in accordance with the directives under the supervision and control of the operating room specialist and/or specialist physician and who works in operating rooms, sterilization units, surgical emergency services and intensive care units. Health Technicians perform such duties as preparing the environment, materials and equipment for the surgical procedure, both ensuring that the materials, equipment and environment are made suitable by staying out of the sterile area and helping the physician by being included in the surgical team in the sterile area as deemed appropriate by the physician during the surgical operation, ensuring that the tools, equipment and environment are tidied up after the surgical operation and that they are ready for reprocessing, and performing the tasks that the physician in charge will give them. The study period of Operating Room Services is two years at the associate degree level. Theoretical courses are at the forefront in the first year, and practical training in the second year. The students do their practical training at the Surgical Intensive Care Units of Erciyes University and State Hospital.
